Within the framework of Mystery 85 City Patterns, the M2P team presents an experiential workshop that proposes a new look at patterns and introduces inventive ways of repurposing them, thus suggesting that tradition and memory can inspire new forms of creativity.

2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture

The workshop will kick off by presenting the process of recording and collecting the material which came to be thanks to the collaboration with local folklore associations and analyzing the various patterns produced. A vibrant happening will form the main part of the workshop, wherein each participant, along with the M2P team and fashion designer Eftychia Sarri, will create their own object: a tote bag.
Each tote will be a one-off, its creation is the result of various compositional and decorative techniques that the participants will become familiarized with during the workshop.
About Mystery 85 City Patterns
Following extensive research on the collective experiences and traditions of various Elefsina communities – hailing from a wide range of areas in Greece and beyond, Mystery 85 City Patterns was presented in winter 2023 during the opening ceremony of the 2023 Eleusis in the form of an installation in the public space. The ten patterns, inspired by the associations’ places of origin, were printed on natural canvas and hung on a building along Elefsina’s coastal route, thus creating both a visual narrative and an open dialogue with the city’s contemporary history.
From December 15 to February 11, 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture presents Mystery 87 I My Sea Journey, I My Land Claim, the new sculpture installation by the acclaimed visual artist Stefania Strouza honoured with this year’s Art Athina Prize for young artists.
From 17 December 2023 to 11 February 2024, 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture inaugurates a new era for the renovated IRIS factory with Mystery 111 Eleusis Terracotta Army by international artist Juan Esteban Sandoval. An exhibition as a tribute to the people who work in Elefsina and the broader West Attica region, a huge collective portrait that was made to represent the people who have forged with their work, their physical toil and their lives the current image of the place where they live. The exhibition will open on Sunday 17 December, during the closing ceremony of 2023 Eleusis, Mystery 1 Closing : Opening | A ceremony.
