In February 2023, Elfsina welcomed the Timecircus, and with them the largest pilgrimage procession of the 3,500-year history of this city. The members of the Belgian collective started from Antwerp on May 27, 2022, and walked 3,000 kilometers in nine months, crossing the whole of Europe, dragging a land ship, the Landship, which is propelled only by human power.
Their long journey was an exercise in being “on the road” and a living commentary on the 21st century of recession, climate change and the immeasurable consumption of natural resources. At the same time, it was an action of encouragement, strength, hope and participation of all European citizens, and a valuable contribution to the Opening Ceremony of 2023 Eleusis.
Arriving in Elefsina, Timecircus began the construction of The Ark: an Ark of eternal youth and culture, which will be a space for the young people of the city, and where everyone will have access without exclusion.
The Ark space will be inaugurated on June 18 with an all-day celebration.

From 29 March to 8 April, 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture presents in the foyer of Cine Eleusis Cultural Centre Mystery 178 Collecting flowers with her girlfriends, an exhibition dedicated to the flora of the Archaeological Site of Elefsina, created by the artist Violeta Diamanti-Meletiou and the teacher Irini Yovanou.
From April 13th to April 16th, 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture presents an exhibition with artistic creations by Nicoletta Granitsa (aka Magemeli, a name that is inspired by the “alchemical” society of bees), under the title: Mystery 197 Paper World – A Letter to Eleusis, at the Canteen – Art Hub.
