The youth group Cultterra introduces the project (Thirstdays). The youth group Cultterra introduces the project Thirstdays. The title is a pun on the English words “Thursday”, the day of the weekly meeting of the group, and “thirst”, symbolising the thirst of the city’s young people for art and culture. The axes of the project range from the most informal activities to the most formal events open to the public.
In May the following activities will take place: meet the locals: Elpida Hatzinikolaou finissage of the installation “transcedence”, γνωριmeet the 2023: Martha Frintzila, Araxovolin: meeting with a collective of the city, meet the locals: Danae Androni.

Thursday 17:00 Finissage of the installation “transcedence”.
Land Art & Bio art is an installation that raises questions about society, sustainability, going beyond the allowed and predetermined limits. Both from the location of the project and from the materials used. The goal of this project is sustainability through the process of living and reusing materials.

In the context of “γνωριmeet the 2023” the young people of Elefsina will get in touch with the
the artistic program of 2023 Eleusis and meet the artists who will create artistic works this year in the city.

Martha Frintzila is a director, actress, singer, acting and singing teacher. She was born and grew up in Elefsina. Founding member of the art scene and education Baumstrasse/Dromme mit Trees (Δρόµος µε δέντρα) (www.dentra.gr) and the Attiko school of Ancient Drama (www.attikosxoleio.gr). Martha Frintzila lives and works in Athens.

18/5 Araxovolin – 19.00: Meeting with a city collective

Cultterra members satisfy their weekly thirst for fun on Thursdays, chatting, playing board games, watching movies – not just cult movies – playing or playing music, relaxing and getting closer to the inner sides of themselves. Ensuring an extra opportunity to get in touch with other associations and collectives of the city.

21-28/5 γνωριmeet the locals: Danae Androni.

Danae Androni was born in 2002 in Athens. She grew up and lives in Elefsina. In 2020, she was admitted to the University of West Attica in the Department of Interior Design and Architecture, a faculty whose main subject is the theory and practice of architecture. Having chosen the field of architecture and design, she is involved both academically and as an amateur in Graphic Design, as well as in painting, both digital and in analog. She explores painting intuitively and creates visual compositions, or collages, with a variety of materials, colours and shapes and she designs surfaces with contrasts based on chance and purpose. Her passion for the arts comes from her lifelong love for creating.

The thematic axis of the artistic programme titled Labor explores the past and the present of work, the common European challenges of precariousness and the model of a contemporary sustainable economy, focusing on the pioneering linking of art with fields such as industry, science, technology and social innovation. Thus, it addresses another important feature of European cultural heritage, industry, which has been the basis of Europe’s development in the last few centuries. The thematic axis creates synergies between artists and businesses in various sectors as well as between artists and scientists, through three themes/notions: “The Future Starts Here”, “Culture My Profession/Culture My Hobby”, “Capacity Building and Applied Innovation Centre”.

Mystery 178 Collecting flowers with her girlfriends

From 29 March to 8 April, 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture presents in the foyer of Cine Eleusis Cultural Centre Mystery 178 Collecting flowers with her girlfriends, an exhibition dedicated to the flora of the Archaeological Site of Elefsina, created by the artist Violeta Diamanti-Meletiou and the teacher Irini Yovanou.


Mystery 197 Paper World - A Letter about Elefsina

From April 13th to April 16th, 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture presents an exhibition with artistic creations by Nicoletta Granitsa (aka Magemeli, a name that is inspired by the “alchemical” society of bees), under the title: Mystery 197 Paper World – A Letter to Eleusis, at the Canteen – Art Hub.

Presentation of the results of the 2nd self-assessment workshop of the international participatory planning programme Pilot Cities. The residents of Elefsina define the position of culture in their city today
as well as the priorities for tomorrow.


Mystery 14 Human Requiem In Eleusis

World premiere of the film by French filmmaker Stephan Talneau for the homonymous performance in the archaeological site of Elefsina, directed by Jochen Sandig and choreographed by Sasha Waltz, in the presence of its creators.
