Young people aged 15-20 are invited to participate in the second cycle of the cinema workshop ELEFSINA STORIES with the specific title “Reflections,” in order to ask themselves how the landscape where they grew up is reflected in their decisions for the future. Voices of Elefsina 

OSE – ELEFSINA OLD RAILWAY STATION 

The online community radio station of Mystery 37 Voices of Elefsina has been on air for a few months now, broadcasting live every Friday, Saturday and Sunday with a diverse programme of live shows, news, music, readings, tributes and experimentation. The station is the result of a series of activities and workshops organised by 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture, curated by the Zoetrope Athens art space team, in collaboration with the Berliner artist Karl Heinz Jeron and with the participation of residents of Elefsina and the surrounding area. Transition Towards Professional Solidarity

A series of workshops and meetings with the local collectives in the city, aiming on the one hand to bring the concept of professional solidarity to the present day, using culture as a means of social change, and on the other to ensure the passage to new, more participatory, collective and relevant forms of professional coalitions with the local community of Elefsina.

Cinema Days

CINE ELEUSIS

A series of documentary screenings related to the artistic programme of 2023 Eleusis, the city, as well as contemporary concerns around critical and timeless issues. A decisive gesture after the warm reception of IN SITU REALITIES − Elefsina Documentary Festival, which seeks the organic and functional integration of Cine Eleusis into the cultural daily life of the city, and the broader Greek and international film scene, always with a hidden ambition to turn Elefsina into a landmark of a unique cinematic experience.

Resonances 

CINE ELEUSIS

A concert with 21st-century works for two pianos, by pianists Lydia Linardou and Hero Menegou. A journey through the imaginary musical cities of contrasts. Among them a new commission, a new arrangement of a concerto, an arrangement from a piece á quatre mains, musical theatre, movement and speech. A journey through the mature language of the composers, through the eyes of the newly formed duo. Starting from the city of Andria in Italo Calvino’s book Invisible Cities, the performers trace the connection between the works and some of the author’s special cities.

Pilot Cities

CINE ELEUSIS

The second self-assessment workshop is organised by 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture, in the framework of the international participatory programme Pilot Cities, where city residents take on the task of defining the place of culture in Elefsina and their future priorities. An initiative of the European organisation Culture Action Europe in cooperation with the Culture Committee of the international organisation UCLG-United Cities and Local Governments.

The Light

Through the eyes of Thanasis Leventis

ELEFSINA OLD TOWN HALL

Discussion and opening: Sunday 10 MAR 

An exhibition about the Educational and Cultural Association of Elefsina, which presents a significant part of the personal archive of Thanasis Leventis, including the issues of the magazine To Fos [The Light], photographs from artistic events and memorable moments, the statutes of the Association’s foundation, the library’s activity register and many other exhibits from the first cultural association of the city. The exhibition is accompanied by the cinematic vision of Menelaos Karamaghiolis and Eva Stefani with video documentation of the life and activities of Thanasis Leventis and the Association.

HERITACT

CINE ELEUSIS

Presentation of HERITACT, the three-year European project involving 15 European partners among which local authorities, universities, social organisations, architectural and artistic groups from five European countries. During the project, pilot actions will be carried out in three European cities in Greece (Elefsina), Italy (Milan) and Ireland (County Mayo). HERITACT will introduce innovative architectural and design solutions, develop cultural transformations leading to sustainability, and explore new forms of collaboration between stakeholders such as local authorities, artists, scientists and citizens, designing and promoting a new European way of life according to the principles of the New European Bauhaus.

Performing Arts Initiator – Narrative Archaeology

ELEUSIS ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE 

A groundbreaking fusion of performance art and archaeology, curated by director Gemma Hansson Carbone, that combines man’s innate love of storytelling and the mystical awe of the intergenerational interconnectedness felt by every visitor to historical monuments. In the repository of collective memory at the archaeological site of Elefsina, viewers are invited to participate in a tour that transcends the conventions of temporality and, following the thread of the artists-researchers, to traverse the landmarks along the specially designed route in order to experience the imaginary narrative of each attempt to interpret the past within the natural world that inspired it. Archaeology and Narrativity 

Performance in archaeological sites and excavation of human experiences 

ELEFSINA OLD OIL MILL FACTORY

This two-day meeting is held in the framework of the interdisciplinary art project Mystery 20 Performing Arts Initiator − Narrative Archaeology, with the main objective of encouraging interdisciplinary dialogue between the fields of Arts and Archaeology. The aim is to highlight through performing arts the inexhaustible topographical archaeological wealth and its potential on a national and European level, as well as to promote good practices in the application of performing arts in archaeological sites and monuments in Greece and internationally and transform archaeological information into a personal experience for the visitor.

“The Goumas Army” Dionisis Christofilogiannis

OLD OIL MILL FACTORY ΑMPHITHEATRE

In the framework of the conference on Narrative Archaeology, the sculptural work of Dionisis Christofilogiannis will be presented with a live performance activity. Forty-nine ceramic heads from the clay universe of Haralambos Goumas will come to life in the Elefsina Old Oil Mill Factory, composing a contemporary art installation in collaboration with Lysandros Spetsieris and galleria pemuvia
