Mystery 65 Reframe Eleusis: Open Call for Photography workshops

From June 15th until October, 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture organizes the Mystery 65 Reframe Elefsina, a collective social action with an artistic, educational and research character, and invites young people aged 18 – 35 from Elefsina and the wider Attica region to participate in an educational program focused on photography and visual culture, so that, under the guidance of renowned lecturers, they will create original photographic works inspired by the Eleusinian site.

In particular, this action will be a trigger for the production and presentation of photographic images that capture-interpret the visual anthropology of Elefsina. The photographic evidence will map its natural and cultural environment and will highlight its unique identity and physiognomy.

Laboratory Methodology

The program aims to familiarize participants with the narrative role of photography, the expressive codes of the medium, the method of participatory photography, through a dialogue of different creative techniques, such as photographic works, collages, oral histories and texts.

The program focuses on the practical and theoretical aspect of the photographic image, through an intensive program that includes lectures, presentations, assignment of creative tasks, group outdoor photography – tours, continuous monitoring and critical approach – analysis of the participants’ photographs.

Create and Publish a Photo Zine

The process will gradually lead to the organization and final formatting of the content and the publication of a collective photo zine (print magazine). Participants will approach and explore the zine as a narrative environment for presenting the final work – result.

Duration of the program

The workshop includes twelve 3-hour afternoon meetings that take place every Thursday, from 17.30 to 20.30. There are no classes during the month of August.
