Mystery 182 Sunday’s ADVENT: A celebration for the Sunday holiday

More than 1600 residents and visitors attended OASIS Former Camping on Sunday May 28, in the all-day participatory event for the Sunday holiday.

The 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture held with great success the all-day participatory event for the Sunday holiday, the Mystery 182 Sunday’s ADVENT, on Sunday May 28, at the OASIS former campsite. More than 1600 residents and visitors of Elefsina had the opportunity to enjoy concerts, discussions and games for all ages, in yet another action to activate this rare natural beauty area.

The action started with the performance of Stefanos Papatrechas and Nadias Dalkyriadou, “Ilias, the first cat dancer of cat history”, a tender story about diversity, inclusion, courage and acceptance, for young and old.

In the Eleusinian of the myth that experiences the changes of the seasons, the universal place where human traces eternally converse with the chimneys of factories, a Sunday cafe was set up on the day off, for people to talk about what they are, when they are not working.

The social researcher on gender issues, Anna Vougiouka, the associate professor of Political Science at Panteion University Seraphim Seferiadis, the associate professor at the NTUA School of Architecture and Engineering Penny Koutrolikou and the radio producer and lyricist Odysseus Ioannou set the stage for the unraveling of the thread of common experience , inviting us to chat about gender, work, place and folk song on the radio.

Throughout the day, Kalliopi Koutroumpi, Evi Kasketi and Irini Gozadinou invited us to imagine “how far can we travel on a Sunday?” designing games for all ages with participants making their own Memory Game of favorite leisure memories to take home as a souvenir.

A little further, the PIY Seminars team of Antonis Daktylides introduced us to the magical world of screen printing, and we printed on the fabric of our choice whatever we wanted to keep from this unforgettable Sunday.

The day ended with three of the most important artists of the younger generation of Greek music, Maria Papageorgiou, Yiannis Papageorgiou and Yiannis Dionysiou, who highlighted, through their own eyes, Sunday as one of the most important reservoirs for popular song. Earlier, the Antimamalo Band brought us together with those songs that carry the historical burden of urban folk (rebetiko) and traditional music, the ones that were the fuel for all the Sunday feasts.

All this while the sounds of the Sunday meeting and the people who conveyed their experiences are the core of the audio documentary (podcast) that develops creating the intangible legacy of this meeting but also of the challenges facing the working class today.
