Culture 2030 Meeting

The Culture 2030 Meeting is one of the new initiatives being launched by 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture, and one of its key legacy programmes.

The main goal of the Culture 2030 Meeting is to forge an arena for reflection, ideas, and proposals regarding the sustainable cultural development of the Greek regions and their cities through a series of artistic projects, discussions, and workshops taking the long view to 2030. The Culture 2030 Meeting artistic programme offers a physical space in which people and entities engaged in the field of cultural production (artists, politicians, cultural managers, thinkers, and so on) can share the problems and difficulties they face, but above all their expectations and dreams about the future of their practice, and of the communities in which they live and work.

In this way, the Culture 2030 Meeting constitutes a first-class opportunity for everyone involved to broaden their professional network both nationally and internationally. The first Culture 2030 Meeting – titled “Is Art the Capital?” – was held in Elefsina in 2018, with the second – titled “People, Stories, Culture” – following in 2019. In the wake of the pandemic and the restrictions it imposed, the Culture 2030 Meeting initiative is returning to 2023 Eleusis with two events, held in November 2022 and 2023 respectively, that focus on the meaning of “artistic nationality” (citizenship) and the prerequisites necessary for art and artists to function as agents for social change and prosperity. Labor
The thematic axis of the artistic programme titled Labor explores the past and the present of work, the common European challenges of precariousness and the model of a contemporary sustainable economy, focusing on the pioneering linking of art with fields such as industry, science, technology and social innovation. Thus, it addresses another important feature of European cultural heritage, industry, which has been the basis of Europe’s development in the last few centuries. The thematic axis creates synergies between artists and businesses in various sectors as well as between artists and scientists, through three themes/notions: “The Future Starts Here”, “Culture My Profession/Culture My Hobby”, “Capacity Building and Applied Innovation Centre”.
