2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture presents the documentary series One Land, Many Lands, produced by elc productions. 25 mini-documentaries on places, history, memory, journeys, and life. Two new videos will be published every Monday and Thursday on the digital communication channels of 2023 Eleusis as part of a systematic effort to showcase the cultural diversity of the Associations of Elefsina, through recorded history, expectations, and human memories.

This is what we strive for. To preserve our roots.
(Panepirotic Association of Elefsina)

The series One Place, Many Places is the result of research and documentation of the collective experiences of people who have shaped the identity of Elefsina through traditions and their personal journeys. Among them are the stories of people who once left their homeland and united their lives to create a new place from scratch. Each association represents a unique community that completes the multifaceted mosaic of the city. The Associations of Elefsina are a valuable legacy with a long history and deep roots in the social life of the city. They are the bearers of a continuous search for the present and the future.

Emigration is difficult… and we are considered emigrants.
(Thessalian Association of the Thriasian Field)

The city of Elefsina has been a significant destination for refugees and migrants during various historical periods, especially after the Asia Minor Catastrophe, but also a place of reception for internal migrants from different regions of Greece, particularly during the 20th century. The fabric of the city is composed of traces from antiquity, contemporary stories of population movements, labor movements, industrial and cultural development, writings, and songs, making it a unique historical landmark. The Associations of Elefsina promote culture, social solidarity, and historical memory. With the active participation of their members, they organize exhibitions, dance events, athletic activities, musical and theatrical evenings, fostering cooperation, education, and social cohesion.

It is the diversity and vibrancy that you will find in Elefsina.
(Symian Association of Elefsina)

The artistic program of 2023 Eleusis aims to connect the unfamiliar with the familiar, to discover hidden aspects, memories, and elements of cultural diversity. It focuses on inclusion and the practices by which we relate to each other. The Associations of Elefsina are part of this goal, forming a multifaceted body that runs through the fabric of the city.

Associations featured in the documentary series include: The Peloponnesian Association of Elefsina, the Brotherhood of Romaniotes of Lakka Souli of Elefsina, the Association of Asia Minor Refugees of Elefsina, the Thessalian Association of the Thriasian Plain, the Symian Association of Elefsina, the Panepirotic Association of Elefsina, the Cultural Educational Association of Elefsina-Magoula, the Association of Pontians of Elefsina Nea Trapezounta, the Day Care Center All of Us, the Association of Pontians of Magoula, the Hellenic Mountaineering Club of Elefsina, the Orpheus Music Club, the Folklore Association Adracthi, the Photographic Club of Elefsina, the Elefsina Art Workshop, the Evrynomi Disabled Association, the Cretan Union of Elefsina The Great Island, the Elefsina Film Club, the Epirote Association of the Thriasian Plain, the Magoula Women’s Association, the Volunteers of the Thriasian Plain, the Chian Union Saint Markella, and the 1st Scout System of Elefsina.
