a Crack

In a blooming ecological microcosm, which will capture the attention of the city’s residents and visitors to the Demeter’s gardens and the healing energies in contrast to the intensifying environmental crisis and degradation. The garden is the core of the project, but it will be enriched through actions that interpret both the ancient and the modern world.

The Inauguration of the Mythological Gardens will take place on September 16, 2023, through a walking performance by Brian Michaels, and Andreas Konstantinou. Two performers host and guide visitors to the IRIS area, speaking in Greek and English. Visitors are taken on a mythological mystery tour through the stories of our gardens. This is not a botanical excursion, but an encounter with the narrative framework of transformation that our ancient seeds inspire. Slowly, step by step, visitors will witness the emergence of new old worlds. The space is transformed by plants, flowers, smells, sounds, voices, dance, texts and visualizations. This transformation is the context through which the narrative walk becomes possible. Visitors are invited to observe, listen and contribute – perhaps by writing their own short stories or revealing their photographs after the tour is over.

The tangible transformation will be accompanied by artistic actions, whether it is the interpretation of Cassandra by Daria Fain, or Medea embodied by the Palestinian actress Nisren Faour. The goal is for art and science to interject in an exemplary way, thus creating a new (K)chronology for Eleusis.

Then, drawing on contemporary eco-cultural aesthetics, Live Acts will include soundscapes, performances, screenings, guided tours by international and local artists. The first act is Anna Furse’s limberly dreamy and ironic performance “A Crack”, which will be presented on October 1, 2023. Soundscapes, performances and projections curated by Brian Michaels, Sozita Goudouna and Kate Peila.
