Talk & exhibition dedicated to Greek pottery by the renowned Eleusinian ceramist Athanasios Katsaras

On Friday 26 April, 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture presents a talk and exhibition by the ceramist Athanasios Katsaras dedicated to Greek ceramics at Cine Eleusis, in the framework of Mystery 189 Myths and legends of Elefsina.

During the last decades, the ceramic technology of the ancient Greeks has been the subject of research and experimental applications. The acclaimed Elefsinian artist (AMASIS Ceramics Laboratory) will present his research on the great ancient Greek ceramic tradition through the constructional approach of three Elefsinian amphorae and other selected exhibits from the city’s Archaeological Museum. Athanasios Katsaras used soil from the city and the surrounding area and painted primordial myths and decorative motifs, approximating ancient production techniques. The artist will present the collection of vases, tools and methods of manufacture at Cine Eleusis, and finally, he will give a live demonstration of application.

Mystery 189 Myths and legends of Elefsina, which took place throughout the year of the Capital of Culture title and continues, is a multi-dimensional and multi-level project that includes artistic production, research work, public participation, installation in public space and educational activities.
