The concert links directly the ensemble’s participation with public as well as lesser-known spots of Elefsina, the European Capital of Culture in 2023. Music specifically composed and arranged for the occasion and strikingly original works of the past will be performed in Elefsina’s unique settings. The musical journey starts on the rooftops of the historic town, from which alphorn players will summon other musicians, positioned in the nearby archaeological site, the sanctuary of ancient Eleusis.
This is a call to congregate for a concert intended to reveal and describe cultural transitions and overlaps. The event embraces music from diverse historic and cultural eras. Works by Venetian Renaissance composer Giovanni Gabrieli will be performed alongside music by film composer John Williams and contemporary pieces by Konstantia Gourzi and Wieland Reissmann. Exceptional arrangements for French horns, alphorns, trumpets and tubas provide a common link in an unusual classical concert which reflects on a narrative of cultural transitions through the centuries.
