Following the recent presentation of his latest work TOURNÉ (2022, Little Theatre of Ancient Epidaurus), and in parallel with the ongoing international tour of three signature productions of his – RELIC (2015), TITANS (2017), and ELENIT (2019), Laskaridis and his team will be taking over the two-storey 1930s building of the Leonidas Kanellopoulos Cultural Centre and turning it into a hub for artistic experimentation and research. Driven by his core concerns of transformation and illusion, and working at the intersection between theatre, dance, and the visual arts, Laskaridis is forging a universe, the reality of which eschews any kind of linear perception, stimulating both the senses and the imaginations of artist-performers and audiences alike.
Laskaridis’ artistic team proposes fragments of the creator’s universe — materials and characters from his studio — through a distorting mirror of constant mutation. Viewers move semi-autonomously through the outdoor and indoor spaces, exploring the transformed cultural center and its courtyard, while its empty chambers are transformed into a complex and detailed terrarium, where the creator coordinates, participates, corrects, answers his emails or sits and observes the creatures that have occupied his life’s work. In the meantime, in the garden there is a kiosk that does not sell anything, while under a big tent, an unexpected musical ensemble performs.
The characters appearing from the plays RELIC (2015), TITANS (2017) and ELENIT (2019) as well as some costume exhibits are either tests or completed works by costume designer Angelos Mentis.
