Mystery 200 Mythological Gardens - A crack

Mystery 200 Mythological Gardens transforms an empty and desolate space into a fertile place and garden, where the revival of the narrative of ancient Eleusis and ancient Greece will be attempted, as well as their interconnection with the recent and modern history of the city.

a Crack

In a blooming ecological microcosm, which will capture the attention of the city’s residents and visitors to the Demeter’s gardens and the healing energies in contrast to the intensifying environmental crisis and degradation. The garden is the core of the project, but it will be enriched through actions that interpret both the ancient and the modern world.

Drawing on contemporary eco-cultural aesthetics, Live Acts will include soundscapes, performances, screenings, guided tours by international and local artists. The first act is Anna Furse’s limberly dreamy and ironic performance “A Crack”, which will be presented on October 1, 2023. Soundscapes, performances and projections curated by Brian Michaels, Sozita Goudouna and Kate Peila.

a crack is a new Anglo-Greek theatre work about burning issues of today. Ironic, surreal, dark, and funny by turns, in this physically charged dialogue the duet share their anxiety, despair and hope.

a crack speaks of catastrophe, a world that has tilted on its axis. It unflinchingly stares into the abyss whilst fantasising utopia. It expresses a search for meaning, renewal and a way forward into a future. The text lies somewhere between the banality and urgency of social media and the philosophical discourse of Greek tragedy. The performers speak their dreams, their panic, their thirst for change.

a crack is co-created with and performed by two women artists, who each inhabit different and new worlds post Brexit: they are three decades apart in age, one a mother, one a grandmother.

Supported by Unity Theatre Trust and Arts Council England.
