Under the artistic curation and continuous supervision of the recognized Eleusinian ceramist Athanasios Katsaras, the activity unfolds as a multidimensional and multi-level artistic project, which includes: educational activities, research project with the aim of artistic production, but also the active participation – generally interested, but also specially trained public. Participants will experience the magic of ceramic art from the initial stage of making a vessel to the final stage of firing in primitive or modern kilns, and become creators of new ceramic objects themselves.

In more detail, the implementation of the action moves along two parallel axes:

I. GET YOUR HANDS IN THE MUD: Education and original creation workshops for adults and children, interested in being introduced to the world of ceramics. The themes that are developed are inspired both by the history of Greek ceramics (red-figure pottery, Byzantine glazed pottery, ceramics of the geometric and archaic periods), and by the Japanese “raku” technique.

II. PROCESSES OF RESEARCH & ARTISTIC PRODUCTION: Workshops of original ceramic creation for students of related subjects, which are inspired by exhibits of the Archaeological Museum of Elefsina and by archaic and Byzantine ceramics. In the context of the second axis, the construction approach of three amphorae from the Archaeological Museum of Eleusis will be attempted with the application of ancient production techniques and the use of Eleusinian soils.

Labor
The thematic axis of the artistic programme titled Labor explores the past and the present of work, the common European challenges of precariousness and the model of a contemporary sustainable economy, focusing on the pioneering linking of art with fields such as industry, science, technology and social innovation. Thus, it addresses another important feature of European cultural heritage, industry, which has been the basis of Europe’s development in the last few centuries. The thematic axis creates synergies between artists and businesses in various sectors as well as between artists and scientists, through three themes/notions: “The Future Starts Here”, “Culture My Profession/Culture My Hobby”, “Capacity Building and Applied Innovation Centre”.
