On July 4, 2012 the scientists of CERN confirmed the discovery of a new particle with a mass of 126,5 GeV with a 5 sigma deviation, meaning a finding of 99,99995% certainty that is verifiable and reproducible at all times. The particle is thought to be a boson – indeed, the heaviest boson ever found. In 2014 the contemporary circus company “Ki Omos Kineitai” [And Yet it Moves] produced The God Particle, winning the theatre and dance critics’ award that same year.

Based on a concept by Christina Sougioultzi and Dimitris Apostolakis of the Hainides music group, the show is at the same time a lecture of escalating entropy by Apostolakis, who has worked with CERN on this field of research concerning the Higgs boson, with a grant from the University of Crete. Based on this show, “Ki Omos Kineitai” organise a social circus workshop in Elefsina, inviting children and adults to acquaint themselves with the magic of contemporary circus through a series of acrobatics and contemporary dance workshops. With this process, which engages the people of Elefsina, the group develops a new, participatory version of The Higgs Particle show to be staged in Elefsina in the autumn of 2023.
