An exhibition dedicated to the flora in the archaeological site of Ancient Eleusis. Visual artist Violeta Diamanti-Meletiou and teacher Irini Yovanou, students at the Mystery 7 Free University of Elefsina IN SITU, with guidance and support from Sophia Rizopoulou, Emeritus Professor of Plant Ecophysiology at the Department of Biology of the University of Athens, study the flora in the archaeological site of Ancient Eleusis and capture it on paper with sketch and colour. The first visual presentation of their work is accompanied by photographs by Thanasis Milisis.

A celebration of all the theoretical and practical orientations of the performing arts in a common thread: the art of directing. The aim of the festival is to enable young artists − in what is called “the future of theatre” − to find a space, a platform, and a springboard for creation, exchange, and networking. The homeland of Aeschylus becomes a meeting point for University Performing Arts and Theatre and a focus for the future of this unique living Art.

A series of documentary screenings pertaining to the artistic programme of 2023 Eleusis, the city, as well as to contemporary concerns around current and timeless issues. A decisive gesture after the warm reception of IN SITU REALITIES – Eleusis Documentary Festival, which seeks to organically and functionally integrate Cine Eleusis into the cultural everyday life of the city and the wider Greek and international film scene, always with a silent ambition to turn Elefsina into a landmark of a unique cinematic experience.

An exhibition of “paper flowers, boats, trees, fish, birds, songs, surprises, and winds. Yes, paper winds! Who said it couldn’t be?”

MYSTERY 32 Open Eleusis – Οne Documentary, Many Stories
Presentation of the results from the research-participatory project
CINE ELEUSIS
The Open Eleusis team presents the results of its work in Elefsina over the last year: historical, artistic, and ethnographic research interact with each other and are being introduced to the public through a website, a documentary, and the short docu-animation films created by primary school students. In collaboration with the Research Centre for the Humanities (RCH).
The project is implemented in the framework of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan Greece 2.0 with funding from the European Union-Next Generation EU.

Continuing the tribute works on the oeuvre and life of important artists and distinguished personalities from Elefsina and the surrounding geographical area, an exhibition-tribute on the work and life of painter Thanos Tsigkos and photographer Vangelis Tsakos is inaugurated. The exhibition presents original works, archival material, and numerous documents from two fascinating artistic lives with a rich oeuvre and legacy. The exhibition is framed by two public discussions.

The presentation includes the results of the 2nd self-assessment workshop for the international participatory design project titled Pilot Cities, which took place at the Cine Eleusis on 9 March. The participatory process of self-evaluation highlighted the good practices adopted in Elefsina and their prospects, revealed and identified the needs, manifested the dynamics of local groups, and established the value of citizens’ access to participatory city planning. An initiative of the European organisation Culture Action Europe in cooperation with the Culture Committee of the international organisation United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG).

Presentation of the research conducted by Athanasios Katsaras, potter-engraver (AMASIS Ceramics Studio), regarding the manufacturing of three Eleusinian amphorae with the application of ancient production techniques and the use of soils from Elefsina and the wider region for the coatings. MYSTERY 14 Human Requiem in Eleusis

The film documents Mystery 14 Human Requiem in Eleusis, the site-specific performance directed by Jochen Sandig and choreographed by Sasha Waltz, with the participation of the 60-member Rundfunkchor Berlin, created for the Eleusis archaeological site and presented in September 2023. The ancient sanctuary of Eleusis became an open public space of collective catharsis, where text and body, space and sound, merged into a single unrepeatable work of art.
Co-production by: 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture, World Human Forum, Federal Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany, Rundfunkchor Berlin in cooperation with Sasha Waltz & Guests, Radialsystem Berlin.
