Open Call for Romeo Castellucci’s new production Mystery 11 Ma

2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture & Romeo Castellucci are looking for 8 female dancers, 8 female extras and 4 musicians for the new production Mystery 11 Ma, that will take place in the archaeological site of Eleusina in September 2023.

Deadline March 10th, at 23.00 (GMT +2).
Brief description

Modern Eleusis. A city with thirty thousand inhabitants, surrounded by cement factories and oil refineries. This is where the most ancient remains of the Eleusinian Mysteries are buried, majestic manifestations designed to explain and celebrate life, as it is born and as it dies, and to ask for a blessing from Mother Earth: Demeter. This is where the observation of the world and time found its matrix. And this is where the Greek spirit invented a system of references, tests and measurements to bring order into the cosmos and the world. Here, the sun beats strongly from high in the sky and cannot but generate pitch black shadows. Here, a ritual was brought into being, made up of silent visions, far deeper than any of the words that would later serve to organise myth. Here, Demeter, the mother, demanded that her daughter return from the dead. Here, the impossible was attempted: an experience of death while remaining alive.

Direction Romeo Castellucci
Original Music Demetrio Castellucci
Choreography Gloria Dorliguzzo
