Mystery 66 Voices in the city: July

The youth group Cultterra introduces the project Thirstdays. The title is a pun on the English words “Thursday”, the day of the weekly meeting of the group, and “thirst”, symbolising the thirst of the city’s young people for art and culture. The themes of the project range from the most informal activities to the most formal and open to the public events.

Dates, 9.7.2023 – 27.7.2023
Location, Old Railway Station and ARKopolis
Agathou 42 Elefsina and Marias Kiouri

The axes of action pass successively from the most informal occupations to the most formal and open to the public events. The actions will take place in July Meet the Locals: Aggelos Christakis, the second Pride “ ELEFSINA NO LONGER KEEPS SECRETS” and Araxovolin: Movie night at ARKopolis.

9-16/7 γνωριmeet the locals: Angelos Christakis

Angelos Christakis was born in 2000 in Elefsina, where he grew up. From an early age he was involved in painting and music, specifically composition and classical percussion. He was also a member of the ERT youth symphony orchestra, but over time he has also participated in more musical productions. His compositions have been awarded in 2019 in a pan-Hellenic composition competition, but also in 2022 in an international one. In 2022 he received a music diploma in classical percussion from the Kodály Conservatory, while in 2023 he graduated from the Food Science and Technology department of PADA. Finally, he uses his works to create atmospheres and evoke feelings that are difficult to describe in words.

“Fragments”:

An installation dedicated to the fragments of yourself that got lost on your way to acceptance. How many fragments have you found? How many have you lost and how many have you managed to keep intact from the beginning? What connects them?

-A sequence.

You spend all your time with a Room. You know that it will always be with you, but you never bother to keep it tidy. Maybe it’s better that way, beautifully messy, but deep down you know there’s something hidden. Will you manage to find it when you need it or will you get lost looking for it?

“Phase I: Reverie”: Tuesday, two hours after midnight. The Room is as you left it and you can finally lie down on the bed. You think about how well you know It, having seen every wall, even from afar.

-After all, it’s just a Room, what else could it be hiding?

“Phase II: Fracture”: You’ve been hit (someone hit you). Wednesday, three hours after midnight. You’re trying to figure out what happened. You’re alone and the Room is bleeding. Now, the things around you have changed and you think, maybe the Room isn’t all walls. You don’t like that idea. You’re trying to sleep, you notice a mass sticking out of a wall.

-Act immediately.

“Phase III: Revelation”: Friday, five hours after midnight. You’re finally awake, but when you get up, you realize you weren’t having a nightmare. The ominous Room no longer seems so scary. You sit in Its chair and across from you, you see yourself. What are you going to say? Have you prepared for this meeting?

-Yes.

10-16/7 Cultterra goes to Timișoara

Five members of the team including Maria Kanaki, Michael Karbonis, Katerina Begia, Dimitra Xatzipanagiotou and Katerina Christoudi, were selected in the programme Cultural Management Academy of EUNIC- EU National Insitutes for the Culture. They will be from 10/7 to 16/7 in Timisoara of Romania and they will participate in the cultural heritage program.

20-21/7: Second Pride: ELEFSINA NO LONG KEEPS SECRETS

Cultterra welcomes “pride month” and celebrates it for the second consecutive year in Eleusis with a two-day festival!
“Pride” is an international celebration, in which various events and actions take place, aiming to raise and bring to light issues concerning LGBTQ+ people, but mainly to help them to claim more of their rights and to send important messages of hope to present and future generations.
After all, this is a celebration of diversity, acceptance of individuality and ensuring that everyone has the freedom to love and express themselves authentically. Our support as a group towards the LGBTQ+ community is not only a matter of justice and human rights, but also enriches our society by fostering a sense of empathy.
Our inner need to make the voices of LGBTQ+ people in Elefsina, a small town that unfortunately necessarily leads people in the community to hide themselves and their sexuality, gave us the courage to create a larger and more open to the public event. A two-day pride festival for all of us to celebrate, discuss, come together and break down the divide: “them and us”.
To be able to break taboos and step out of our comfort zone. So whether you’re LGBTQ+ or not, you can come and go and take part in the discussions and everything else that will be going on at the two-day pride festival.
That’s why we’ve named the event “ELEUSIS NO LONGER HOLDS SECRETS”. And the answer to the enduring question: “Is there an LGBTQ+ community in the thriassion field?” It is…yes! Yes there is and we are here to prove it!
ON JULY 20 AND 21 AT 18.00 P.M. AND IN THE PLACE OF THE OLD TRAIN STATION.

We are waiting for you there!
