Giorgos Liontos

Giorgos Liontos is a graduate of the Department of Economics and Political Sciences and the Legal Department of the Law School of the University of Athens. He has worked in the private sector as an economic and legal advisor. For 35 years, he served at the Ministry of Culture, at the European Union Directorate and the Directorate for Economic Affairs, where he served as Director for years. As a national representative on culture, he has participated in the work of EU institutions and in a number of transnational cooperation programs. He was responsible for organizing the Programme of the Hellenic EU Presidency, in the field of culture, in 1994 and 2003, he participated in organizing “Athens-Capital of Culture of 1987” and was the person responsible-manager of “Thessaloniki-Capital of Culture 1997.”

A founding member of the Greek Department of the International Council of Museums (ICOM), he served for many years as a member of its Board of Directors and as the person responsible for organizing a multitude of events. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the National Museum of Contemporary Art, a collaborator of the Acropolis Museum and a member of the Board of Directors of the “Melina Merkouri” Foundation. He has a deep knowledge of the institutions and operations of the European Union, Financial Law and all aspects of cultural management and a huge experience in organizing conferences, periodic exhibitions and all forms of cultural events.
