The Aeschylus Project ^, presented in the great tragic poet’s birthplace, explores the staging of ancient Greek drama via performative approaches to plays written, in the main, by this major tragedian: performance events – including at least two large-scale stage productions (one Greek, the other international) – by artists of high repute and with an avowed interest in this unique theatre genre. It promises an atypical discourse on issues posed by ancient Greek drama, one that takes a variety of different approaches. In the title year, the Aeschylus Project ^ will be accompanied by an academic symposium delving into Aeschylus and the concepts that underpin this remarkable theatre form.
