Mystery 99
The Ark

2023 Eleusis Cultural Capital of Europe organises Mystery 99 The Ark and welcomes Timecircus for the largest and greatest pilgrimage procession in Elefsina’s 3,500 year history from antiquity to the present day.

The Belgian collective from Antwerp traversed Europe with the Landship, that moved only with human strength. Their long journey has become  a comment on the 21 st century of recession, climate change and careless consumption of natural resources, and an action of encouragement, strength, hope and participation of all European citizens. The team participated in the opening ceremony of the 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture. The Belgian collective Time Circus crossed Europe with a land ship, powered only by human power and reached Elefsina on February 4, 2023.Their next goal is to build an Ark of hope and eternal youth.

Crossing Europe with a land ship, powered only by human power, they will reach Elefsina on February 2023, to build an Ark of hope and eternal youth.Having started their procession from Antwerp since the 27th of May 2022, their journey can be perceived as an existential exercise “en route.”

During its implementation the collective met a plethora of different people from all over Europe, exchanged views, be inspired, co-created and established a mutual understanding and respect. That procession ended up in Elefsina by transferring all these experiences and praising diversity.

After their arrival, Timecircus will focus on the construction of The Ark, a place of Eternal Youth and Culture functioning as an open space for youngsters of all ages in the city. The Ark will be accessible, open and free to all social groups. The Landship will then be placed at the centre of the cultural park, showcased as a “mobile group exhibition” incorporating all the materials and stories collected throughout its trajectory.
