Nature Addicts Academy: Eleusis, a place of interactions about environmental protection and sustainability

Αfter Kassel, Venice and Basel, the Nature Addicts Fund (NA! Fund) chose Eleusis as the next venue and case study of the annual “Academy” workshop held for the first time in Greece from 22nd to 27th of May. The workshop brings together young artists from Italy, Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey that focus on sustainability.

Τhe curator of “Nature Addicts Academy” Stephane Verlet – Bottero, visited Eleusis in order to organise the final content and format of the Academy, to be held next May in Eleusis under the theme of the connection of arts and environment that will bring together artists from different countries of Europe. Along with our curators Yorgos Alexandrou, Costantia Manthou and Elena Symeonidou, Stephane Verlet – Bottero visited the city’s neighborhoods such as Sinikismos, Pontiaka, Symiaka and met some residents’ initiatives on urban agriculture.

The aim of the Academy is to transform Eleusis into a place of interactions regarding the contemporary problems of environmental protection and sustainability in general, while providing the necessary space and time to obtain ideas for projects that could be used as part of our artistic programme.

A short description about Nature Addicts Fund:

Nature Addicts Fund is one of our strategic partners and has a broad network of artists working in the field of “arts and environment”. At Nature Addicts, art has a key role to play in sustainable development awareness and in inspiring tomorrow’s world. Nature Addicts seeks to contribute to an approach that is less about scaring people and making them feel guilty and more about sharing the real concerns of experts and scientists through the subtle, sensitive and unconventional vision that artists can express. Through Nature Addicts Fund that is organised every year in a different European country, they  bring together technical or scientific experts from all disciplines and artists of all forms of expression to debate, learn from each other and allow new creative impetus to emerge. In the framework of the EcoCulture Festival, the first Networking Meeting will take place in Elefsina on May 2017 in collaboration with the Nature Addicts Academy. It will bring together in Elefsina artists, architects and designers from different parts of Europe, whose work engages with the questions of circular economy and transition, to exchange experiences and good practices.
