Fragments of the Silent will be performed for the first time in its whole, during the full moon on the night of the 13th and 14th of July, at the archaeological site of Elefsina. The musical performance Fragments of the Silent is based on lyrical narrations, songs and preserved poetic fragments of unknown female poets of the Ancient World. Music by Lena Platonos, adaptation in modern Greek by Thanos Tsaknakis, performance by Maria Farantouri, and choreography by Dafnis Kokkinos.
Shadows from the past, such as Irinna, Anyti, Nossis, Corinna, Praxilla, Telesilla, Moiro and Diophyli, the disillusioners, but also Sappho, that would have almost been lost, into the nebula of the elusive – that is, oblivion, unite before us, in Elefsina, composing a unique mystery: A woman is lending her exceptional voice, that is her breath, to several fragments of silence. An extraordinary occasion, having exquisite women lending before us their breath, their voice, their life, to exquisite women of the past.
Excerpts from the musical performance Fragments of the Silent were first presented as part of the event “The Parthenon’s Expatriate Goddesses”, organized by the Acropolis Museum and the Marianna V. Vardinoyannis Foundation in March 2022, on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
The musical performance Fragments of the Silent will be visible via a big screen, placed in the Elefsina Town Hall (Pedestrian Street Nikolaidou).
