This project, around the industrial history and culture of the city will be captured in the form of a documentary and presented in the OPEN ELEUSIS Digital Archive at the end of 2023. A production of the 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture.
The 4-day Oral History Seminar (June 10-11 and 17-18) aims to create an oral history group of the city. The participants, under the guidance of historian Tasoula Verbeniotis and with the technical support of cinematographer Michalis Kastanidis, will be introduced to oral history and will be taught interview techniques with the aim of creating an audio-visual archive of oral testimonies of the city’s residents. The team will have at its disposal the necessary technical means for the audio-visual recording of the interviews. The seminar is open to the public, while it is also addressed to the educational community.
How was life in our city when factory machines could be heard everywhere? When the smells from the chimneys came into the house? When the workers’ parties were held in the factory yards? Eleusis is changing, the industries are disappearing and the life of the city is changing, but the memories of the people are still alive. Can we take firm steps in the present if we do not know our past?
