With Mystery 47 – Mnemonic Garden, Eleni Panouklia introduces the public to the care and activation of seeds left over from the consumption of fruits within a workshop environment — a nursery of mnemonic traces shaped by plastic materials and participatory practices. This project-action seeks to encourage experiential reflection on issues of environmental and social sustainability and justice, through the co-creation of a shared space of collective memory.
According to its initial concept, Mystery 47 – Mnemonic Garden was to culminate in the sowing of a garden using the method of natural farming within the unfinished building of the Olympic Baths, reclaiming and returning another forgotten ruin of failed public space initiatives to nature and the residents of Elefsina, transforming it into a potential shared place of lived experience. In the ever-changing conditions surrounding the creation of this ultimately unrealized site-specific action, the project Mnemonic Garden now unfolds within the decaying commercial fabric of Elefsina.
