Days – Hours

Saturday 10 February, 12:00 – 14:00
Sunday 11 February, 12:00 – 14:00

After a year of creative collaboration, exploration and discovery, 70 residents and lovers of Elefsina worked with cultural heritage managers, tour guides, expert scholars and artists and developed interactive experiences in the public realm, that are an expression of their community, concerning various themes such as the environment, industrial archaeology, and more. Undertaking the role of the narrator, the citizens led approximately 800 visitors through interactive cultural experiences set within the public landscape.
Mystery 68 STALKER invites us to the last walking routes, to cross the streets of Elefsina together, to discover its stories and to create common experiences of culture and creative expression.

The Greek Guiding Corps tells us about the Eleusinian natural environment, as it used to flourish and as it survives today in the urban fabric. Two more groups of citizens, with a special interest in archaeology, history and industrial heritage, recall memories and tell stories that unfold for us the timeless, cultural physiognomy of Elefsina.

Detailed route dates:

  • Saturday 3/2/24: 12:00-14:00Street Archaeology: an alternative tour

Starting point: Junction of the Sacred Way and Athanasios & Anastasios Mourikis (on the Sacred Way, in front of Eleourgiki)

Elefsina, one of the most significant religious centres of antiquity, attracts mystics, explorers, and visitors throughout the ages. The history of the city is found everywhere around us, in the scattered archaeological and historical monuments hidden in streets, alleys, courtyards, and squares.

People with an admiration for the archaeology and history of Elefsina have gathered the monuments that you didn’t know were worth discovering into a walking tour. Together, as modern explorers, we will explore the city and learn about its cultural heritage.

  • Sunday 4/2/24 & Saturday 10/2/24: 12.00-14.00 Industrial Memories, let’s give them voice…

Starting point: Refreshment on Kanellopoulou Street (opposite Jumbo)

Elefsina of today has been shaped based on its archaeological and industrial history, which constitutes its economic and cultural identity. It is the city that, in recent years, has been inextricably linked to the industrialisation of Greece.

Residents and admirers of Elefsina have created and offer a narrative walk that gives voice to the personal and collective experience of the people of its industry. During the coastal tour, we will discover impressive factory buildings and other industrial landmarks with a focus on the historical testimonies of the workers who gave them life

  • Sunday 11/2/24: 12.00-14.00 → Trees, flowers and fruits… Environment’s Guides

Starting point: ARKOPOLIS (end of Maria Kiouri Street)

The fertile plain of Elefsina, watered by the Elefsinian Kifissos, was a source of wealth in antiquity. Hence, it is no coincidence that Demeter, the mythical goddess of harvest and wheat, was associated with this place.

However, it is doubtful whether Demeter would recognise Elefsina today. Initially, the development of the industrial zone was a blessing for the place, however it resulted in the coastline’s transformation, the hills’ corrosion and the rivers’ disappearance. After all, what is Elefsina today? What is its environment like? Which streams flow through it; which plants sprout in it?A production by 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture in collaboration with πeripatos sociocultural enterprise
