George Theocharis and Anastasios Germenis discuss with George-Ikaros Babasakis about the relationship between modern medicine and the arts. The philosophy of modern medicine seeks a fruitful dialogue with the visual arts, poetry, prose, cinema and music. Many distinguished doctors are also distinguished artists. The healing power of storytelling, in fact, as served by the relatively recent field of Narrative Medicine, shows how important the reconciliation of science and arts is in our times. In the context of the meeting, issues that have occupied medical science since ancient times will be highlighted, such as the conflict between the poetic-philosophical perception of Asclepius and the scientific-rational view of Hippocrates, a conflict that is still relevant today. But also current issues, such as the distinction recently established by thinker David B. Morris between medical logos and medical eros. Special mention will also be made of patient/doctor relationships, and how medicine is considered as a humanistic science that converses fruitfully with philosophy and the arts, especially in the age of Covid 19.

In the framework of the meeting “In the footsteps of the Sacred Road- The secrets on the side of the highway” and on the occasion of the creation of the first feature-length documentary of “Sacred Road ~ 21Xm”, the rising documentary filmmaker Nicoleta Parashi talks about her personal experience in the field of modern Ieras Odou, as he followed the route of the ancient mysteries along today’s highway. What is saved from the sacred identity of the street today and how does the historical past communicate with the daily life of its modern inhabitants?

The answers to these questions are invited to be given, together with the director, by persons she met during her exploration, and at the same time to share their own experiences on the Sacred Way: Yannis Inglesis, architect, collector and researcher of historical documents of Chaidari and the West Attica and the Captain (Christos Kotsoulas), visual artist. The speech will be accompanied by visual material from the film, shedding light on the multiple faces of the Sacred Way.
