On 15 September – the date when, according to historical documents, the first act of the Eleusinian Mysteries each year began – a great celebration comes to the city, to cry out the profound need for freedom and rebirth. An eclectic band of artists, strange creatures, prepare a ceremony to change the world. From the Iroon Square, the starting point of their route, until the parking space of the Elefsina Old Oil Mill Factory, where their journey will culminate, they produce an explosion that is personal, emotional and desperate. Collective and frightening. They demand, they shout, they kiss, they dance, they fall in love, they dance incessantly, they take a stand. They demand. They build and destroy. They parade and ask the people to follow them. To become a part of the celebration. And, along the way, become part of the change.

Mystery 113 A CELEBRATION TO CHANGE THE WORLD is an explosion for change, in defence of poetry, love and art. An explosion packed with freedom, bursting with oxygen.

A few words about the oper(o) troupe

The oper(o) troupe was created in Athens in 2008 by Erifili Giannakopoulou. It features a core of distinguished young artists from a variety of fields (directors, visual artists, musicians and composers, choreographers, sound designers). It is one of the first independent groups in Greece involved in opera and lyrical theatre. Seeking out a new contemporary idiom, they view opera as a multimedia platform where all forms of art can coexist. Their aim is to create modern performances and theatre experiences that redefine the role of opera and art in contemporary society.

The thematic axis People | Society focuses on inclusion, the way that European society is shaped and, the ways in which we interact with each other, through the three themes/notions “Europe of Citizens”, “Europe, Daughter of Phoenix” and “Human Mysteries”.
