Support of our fellow human beings, a compass for new goals
A special initiative was undertaken by 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture last June, in the context of the narrative Exhibition–Installation Mystery 12_Eleusis + Revolution. In view of the war in Ukraine, the event appealed to the public to support—with a contribution of their choice, and/or with personal hygiene items, cleaning supplies and food—the work of the Accommodation Facility of Elefsina for Third Country Citizens or Stateless Persons, which hosts displaced Ukrainian citizens.
The response of the residents and visitors of Elefsina was immediate. The collection of essentials was carried out on June 30 by officers of 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture,while the amount collected in the donation box that had been placed in the Exhibition space covered part of the needs of the Facility’s residents.
In this context, on July 22, 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture received a thank-you letter from the Reception and Identification Service of the Ministry of Migration and Asylum “for its commendable and kind initiative for the donation of personal hygiene items, cleaning supplies and food to the Accommodation Facility of Elefsina for Third Country Citizens or Stateless Persons.”
2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture is pleased to have contributed with this initiative to the efforts of the Accommodation Facility of Elefsina to improve the reception and accommodation conditions of its beneficiaries, and commits to continue offering support with all the means at its disposal to similar organizations that perform social work of vital significance. Actions of this nature are a driving force and a compass, guiding the dynamic continuation of the ECoC’s work.
