A rich three-day event full of special activities and original artistic events took place from 2023 EΛEVΣIΣ European Capital of Culture from 17 to 19 June in the city of Elefsina, inaugurating the artistic, research and educational planning of the 2023 EΛEVΣIΣ European Capital of Culture.
The ECoC Family Meeting was held with great success, an established practice of the institution of the European Capital of Culture, in which members of past, current and future European Capitals of Culture stayed in Elefsina, were informed about the strategic goals and actions of 2023 EΛEVΣIΣ European Capital of Culture came in contact with stakeholders, artists, local organizations, associations and organizations, while through workshops, seminars and discussions, they shared tips, reflections and good practices.
On the evening of Friday, June 17, the Mystery 49_Symposium took place within the ECoC Family Meeting, in the courtyard of the Old Olive Mill with the participation of the ethnotopic Associations “Union of Cretans of Elefsina – Megalonisos” and “Association of Epirotes of Thriasio Pedio”. Symposium # 1: Epirus – Crete, the first of a series of activities focusing on food and cultural exchange, was an important moment for 2023 EΛEVΣIΣ European Capital of Culture, which managed, thanks to the participation of these associations, to offer a representative image to representatives of past, current and future European Capitals of Culture, for the gastronomic, historical and musical traditions of our place, but also a great meeting place between local actors, clubs and organizers of the event.
On Saturday, June 18, the Mystery 57_ Climbing Over Elefsina with a large crowd to attend the theater of the Old Oil Mill original works of acrobatics, contemporary dance and music, in the context of collaboration between Greek and French artists, who again focused on the artist city of Elefsina.
On the same day, the results of the itinerary workshops entitled “Revisiting the landscapes of Eleusis” were presented at the X – Bowling Art Center with the artistic and scientific team of the great French architect and town planner Patrick Bouchain impressing with its pioneering proposals.
The evening ended with the Danceteria party in the courtyard of the Old Oil Mill, to the sounds of talented DJs, with Black Athena, Dimitri Papaioannou (Synch Festival, Movement radio) and Ilias Pitsios (aka Dynamons – Echovolt Records & Into The Light Records), as well as and musician and MC, Jeff Gonzalez or BNC (Sky Vektor Music).
Finally, on Sunday, June 19, the visitors of the art exhibition Elefsina & Revolution watched with great interest, the two guided tours conducted by Erato Koutsoudaki, curator of the installation. The historical exhibition, curated by Stefanos Kavallierakis, with the valuable contribution of local historians and collectors, will be hosted in the parking lot of the Old Oil Mill until Sunday, June 26.
