The Mystery 149 Transition to a Climate Neutral Future was successfully held at the X-Bowling Art Center, a three-day European Pupil Conference in the framework of the educational programme of the 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture. More than 350 primary and secondary school students (aged 10-15 years) from schools in Elefsis, Attica, Thessaloniki, as well as from Germany and other European countries participated to the event.
The aim of the action, that is a continuation of the successful Greek-German cooperation in the framework of the European Climate Initiative (EUKI), is to create the greatest possible interaction between the students of Elefsina and those of other cities, in order to generate ideas for shaping an energy-efficient and climate-neutral future. Both the preparation of the students and the structure of the conference were based on participatory methodologies to empower them, to highlight their opinions and to create a collective vision. These methodologies can be used as a good practice and shared with the wider national and European educational community, implementing the vision of sustainability served by the European Capital of Culture. The results of the conference will be presented at the Ecoculture Festival next September.
The Mystery 149 Pupil Conference on the Transition to a Climate Neutral Future was organised in the framework of the 2023 European Capital of Culture in Eleusis by the Centre for Renewable Energy Sources and Energy Saving (CRES), in cooperation with the Environmental Education Officers of the Directorates of Primary Education of West Attica, Athens A’ and C’, Secondary Education of Eastern Thessaloniki and the Independent Institute for Environmental Issues (UfU) from Germany and under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs.
Most of the project is directly funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action with funds from the European Climate Initiative (EUKI), and supplemented by additional funds from the 2023 European Capital of Culture Eleusis.
