The European project HERITACT in Elefsina, which promotes a sustainable way of life according to the principles of the New European Bauhaus, was approved

The Municipality of Elefsina, in collaboration with 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture, announces that the European project HERITACT-HERITAGE ACTIVATION THROUGH ENGAGING EXPERIENCES TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT has been approved for implementation, as part of the European Horizon Europe Framework Programme (HORIZON 2022), in which they both participate as partners.

The three-year HERITACT project involves 15 European partners, including local authorities, universities, social organizations, architectural and artistic groups from five European countries. During the project’s implementation, pilot actions will be carried out in three European cities, in Greece (Elefsina), Italy (Milan) and Ireland (County Mayo). The project’s coordinating partner is the University of Patras, with Dr. Stylianos K. Karatzas as Scientific Director. Elefsina, in conjunction with its role as European Capital of Culture for 2023, will be an important field for HERITACT pilot actions focusing on its rich cultural heritage and its culturally diverse urban context.

The HERITACT project will introduce innovative architectural and design solutions, develop cultural transformations leading to sustainability and explore new forms of collaboration between relevant stakeholders such as local authorities, artists, scientists and citizens, designing and promoting a new European way of life according to the principles of the New European Bauhaus.

The main axis of the HERITACT project is to raise awareness and activate the local community, combined with the development of common policies in European urban areas of different scales and cultural characteristics.

The project is funded by the European Union under the programme HORIZON-CL2-2022-HERITAGE-01 (Research and innovation on cultural heritage and CCIs – 2022).
