OPENINGS – MENDINGS Eternity is the opposite of extinction
Alfredo Romano
Exhibition
The Italian artist Alfredo Romano is invited to form a new consciousness about the Other: the immigrant, the refugee, the different. Through new works that were conceived during his visit to Eleusis and with earlier works, which were presented on the occasion of the exhibition “Angelis suis mandavit de te” at the European Cultural Center of Delphi and the Byzantine and Christian Museum in Athens. He focuses on the drama of immigration, loss and hunger, which is inherent in the Mediterranean culture. Romano is inflaming the trauma, the pain, the memory of uprooting, and inevitably points to the current migration crisis. Migration and distinctness are concepts that are identical to the historical and mythological past of Eleusis.
Alfredo Romano was born in Syracuse, where he currently lives and works. Since 1985 he has participated in many personal and group exhibitions in Italy and abroad. His works have been presented in many public and private collections, in museums and at the European Cultural Centre of Delphi. His work, represented by the historic Galleria Giorgio Persano of Torino, has been the focus of attention of some of the most important art critics in Italy, such as Achille Bonito Oliva, Francesco Gallo, Giovanni Iovane and Enzo Fiammetta
