Film Workshop for Adolescents
2nd Cycle: Reflections
1 to 3 MAR 2024
How do children see the city’s past? How do they envision their future selves in it?
From March 1 to 3, 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture, in collaboration with EXILE ROOM, presents the 2nd cycle of the project Mystery 156 Stories about Elefsina, entitled “Reflections”, and calls for participation to teenagers and young people aged 15 to 20 years old. A film workshop that will urge participants to question how the landscape they grew up in is reflected in their decisions about the future. They will learn how they can tell a story through images and sounds, drawing inspiration from the industries and de-industrialized spaces of Elefsina and the people who work there. They will learn how to combine multi-dimensional images and textures, captured through cameras, along with soundscapes and interviews, to compose their own narrative.
After a brief introduction to film and sound media, the participants will be divided into groups and will collect images and sounds of the city using analogue VHS film cameras and recording devices. The echoes of the abandoned Kronos factory, the salty echoes of the shipyards, the steel clatter of the Steelworks and the hum of the people who go to work every day will dress up a different portrait of Elefsina, in a short film made by the children who grow up in the city. The only dialogue that will be heard in the film will be the conversations between them: What do they dream of becoming when they grow up? How do they see their future in Elefsina?
