Institutional representatives of the French city of Saint Denis visited Elefsina, on Thursday afternoon, December 9. The visit took place in the context of the 2023 European Capital of Culture event, as Saint Denis is a city that is expected to bid for the title in 2028.
The French visitors were welcomed by the Mayor of Elefsina, Argyris Economou, the CEO of 2023 Eleusis, Nana Spyropoulou, the Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of 2023 Eleusis, Despina Geroulanou, the General Artistic Director of 2023 Eleusis, Michail Marmarinos, the Deputy Mayors, Leonidas Pappas, Fotis Tatakis & Dimitris Papagiannaros, while the Vice President of PAKPPA, Katerina Kriekouki and, of course, the employees of the ECoC were also present.
The meeting focused on the fruitful exchange of views, ideas and experiences, on the excellent preparation and requirements of the event, both at the artistic level and in the context of infrastructure.
After all, the Municipality of Elefsina is actively seeking out meetings and contact with foreign counterparts, with the goal of strengthening the Municipality’s extroversion, tourism development, promotion and popularity.
For his part, the Mayor of Elefsina, Argyris Economou, praised the diligence of the Saint Denis representatives in claiming the ECoC title and stated: “Organizing the ECoC event is certainly a great challenge for any city that holds the title. It takes planning, programing and organization to make it a success and I hope that in 2028, Saint Denis will be a European Capital of Culture. French-Greek relations are and will remain constant and after today’s visit, I hope we will also inaugurate a new ‘page’ in our relations, which concerns culture.”
