The 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture, in collaboration with the Municipality of Eleusis, the Universities of the Aegean and Patras, and the cultural production and management company MENTOR, is participating in the HeritACT research project. They invite the residents of Eleusis to complete a specially designed questionnaire.
The HeritACT research project is a three-year European program that incorporates pilot actions within the urban fabric of Eleusis. As part of this project, six non-invasive architectural solutions will be implemented, aimed at sustainable urban development, specifically the reuse and revaluation of industrial monuments and cultural heritage sites.
The project is implemented within the framework of the European program Horizon Europe as a result of a partnership of 15 partners from five countries, specifically Italy, Greece, Ireland, Spain, and Belgium. These architectural solutions will be applied in three European cities: Ballina, Milan, and Eleusis.
In Eleusis, the focus will be on specific sites such as IRIS, the Old Oil Mill Factory, the Canteen Art Hub, Cine Eleusis, the outdoor space OASIS, as well as the surrounding neighborhoods: Mploko, Pontiaka, Symiaka, Synoikismos, and the IRIS workers’ housing.
A few words about the funding program
With a total budget of €95.5 billion, the central goal of the European Union’s Horizon 2021-2027 program is to maximize the scientific, economic, and social impact of EU investments in research and innovation. The program is built on the values of the New European Bauhaus, a think tank of ideas and proposals for sustainable urban development, following the principles of the European Green Deal (2020).
HeritACT is implemented within the thematic area “Culture, creativity, and inclusive society,” aiming both to achieve European goals and priorities related to strengthening democratic governance and citizen participation, and to protect and promote European cultural heritage through social, economic, technological, and cultural transformations.
