In the past days, the Eleusis 2021 offices in the Old Railway Station are transformed to a meeting point for different generations.
The feminine nature is always inextricably linked to Eleusis and the last days was honored with a unique three-day event such as speeches on “The woman, from tradition to modern reality”,”Costumes in dance” and “The triptych: Cultural Landscape – Folk Museum – Woman” as well as the exhibition “Traditional costumes and objects of the Women’s Life from West Attica and Salamis island”, which brought to light another page from the history of our city.
During these three days, there were traditional games and workshops focusing on the use of the loom, where students from the nurseries and kindergartens of Eleusis played and learned traditional weaving techniques by Konstantinos Tabasis, Valia Konstantopoulou, Litsa Petrogianni – Skountra and Chrisoula Skorda.
The Mayor of Salamis island, Mrs. Isidora Nannou, visited the exhibition and she referred to the strong connection between the two neighboring municipalities and she announced the support of the Municipality of Salamis island to the Eleusis candidacy for European Capital of Culture 2021.
The exhibition ended with the announcement for the beginning of the folklore month that will be focusing on ‘Woman in Tradition’ and with the Eleusis’s traditional female folk dance ‘Trata’.
The three-day event was organized by the Folklore Society ‘Adrachti’, in cooperation with Eleusis 2021 and the Cultural Department of P.A.K.P.P.A. of the Municipality of Eleusis.
