Inaugurated the exhibition of Vangelis Ginis “Elefsina … four memories and a dream” organized by the Kresow Museum in Lubaczow, Poland from 15 May to 15 October 2016. The exhibition includes a peculiar journey in the palimpsest site of Eleusis through the artist’s lens.
Illustrates four photo sections corresponding to the four historical periods of the city and as the curator Louisa Karapidaki writes “The Photographs of Vangelis Ginis, with references identifiable or not, are redefining the image of the place and its aesthetic identity. Starting with his unquenchable love for his birth place and his abundant creative energy, the artist, after years of research decrypts the city of Eleusis and delivers to the audience a new aesthetic concept with a strong visual expression. Photography is used as a memory recall tool, but also as a fellow traveler on the road to the future, bridging cultures. In his photos, the tangible coexists with the intangible, the physical with the metaphysical and the past with the future …”.
The major part of the exhibition has been presented at the Cultural Center of Eleusis “Leonidas Kanellopoulos” in April-May 2014, and now the exhibition is complemented by the installation “mythos” which consists of, among others, 100 photographs (size 20x20cm) each with different light exposure and an interactive game with the viewer: “I believe that this work has many different meanings depending on who watches it. It starts from the myth of Persephone and arrives till today. The etymology will be placed in order to create a reflection to the viewer, as the myth may trigger the interest, may be transferred from generation to generation, but more often it is not something real”.
