The Municipality of Elefsina is part of the 21 “smart” communities of 2022! A distinction for the city of Elefsina coming from the International Intelligent Community Forum (ICF), a global network of cities and regions.ICF brings the digital age to communities by finding a path to economic growth and prosperity that creates inclusive growth, addresses societal challenges and enhances quality of life.T
his distinction came in the framework of a Program Contract between the Municipality of Elefsina and the National Technical University of Athens (www.smartelefsina.gr) for the transition of the municipality to the community of “smart” cities. One of the highlights of the 2023 ΕΛΕVΣΙΣ European Capital of Culture is the Environment. Putting sustainability at the heart of every local activity starts in practice with the integration of ecological practices.
The competition process involved large and small communities from around the world, from which strategic plans and questionnaire responses were submitted for the transition to “smart communities”. Through specific criteria the ICF selected 21 finalists with the possibility of becoming one of the top 7 smart communities of the year of the Forum. The results will be announced in June 2022 based on the following 6 factors that determine economic, social and cultural success today:

Achieving a place among the “Smart21” communities of the year is considered an honorary distinction as well as the first step of a greater recognition as an Intelligent Community that is able to prosper in the broadband economy.
