April in Elefsina is a month abundant with education and training programs and activities for all school levels, young people and adults. Photographic works inspired by the city, short documentaries, murals with environmental themes, a participatory urban design workshop, a dance journey in public space with skateboards, digital environments for the city of the future designed by a joint group of teenagers, new construction technologies for children of the first grade, university lectures, seminars and experiential workshops open to all interested people, and many more activities and programs of 2023 Eleusis showcase the city as a regional centre of cultural education and creativity.
MYSTERY 65 Reframe Eleusis invites young people from Elefsina and the surrounding areas to create photographic works inspired by the city. MYSTERY 26 My Elefsina: Gazes on the City is an educational filmmaking programme that will enable local high-school students to produce a series of their own short documentaries on their personal relation to their homeland. The Interdisciplinary Art Project MYSTERY 37 Voices of Elefsina aims to create an experimental radio station belonging to the local Elefsina community – contributed to and run by them. The digital tour MYSTERY 159 A Walk in Space and Time: The Feminine Side of Eleusis is a project that concerns the creation of a digital tour – via QR codes – through the past and present of Elefsina, following in the footsteps of women who live or once lived in the city, and tracing their relationship to this place. As part of the activities MYSTERY 171 Constructing Utopia A small team of teenage refugees designs the city of the future on Minecraft, a videogame whose users create digital environments. ΜYSTERY 172 A Dancing Journey invites children, teens, and all Elefsina residents and visitors to take a dancing journey through the city’s public spaces on a skateboard. ΜYSTERY 10 Genia17 is a mural painting project occurring mainly in schools of the Municipality of Elefsina and likely in other public or private spaces (walls) of particular interest. It involves the creation of 17 murals in school buildings and sports facilities, each referring to the global UN Sustainable Development Goals.
At the same time MYSTERY 41 Design Campus is an inclusive urban design workshop for the creation of a Sustainable Urban Development Centre at the Oasis Former Campsite, while MYSTERY 7 Free University of Elefsina –IN SITU is an educational programmean it is addressed to all those interested in advancing themselves via an unique learning experience. Classes explore two key topic areas closely linked to the city of Elefsina – the Environment and Healthcare and Cultural Policy. The educational toolbox MYSTIKIT Elefsina continues its journey from school to school, inviting, in the framework of the action MYSTERY 52, students and teachers from all over the country and Europe to an “Eleusinian” game of wandering. MYSTERY 54 Mobile Lab is constantly familiarizing children of the first grade with new construction technologies. In addition MYSTERY 68 STALKER workshops are ongoing in collaboration with the local community to co-design walking routes and city games. Finally, until 23rd April, visits will be organized for schools and other groups of the audience to the art installations and exhibitions MYSTERY 44 Heiner Goebbels 7 Columns and MYSTERY 17 Melina at the Warehouses of the Old Oil Mill Factory, and until 7th May at MYSTERY 29 Elefsina – Raw Museum, hosted at the Old Town Hall.
