An iconic project about the phenomenon of “Elefsina” in the present and the past

Shortly before the start of the official title year of 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture, the city of Elefsina introduces itself to the general public with the Exhibition Mystery 29_Eleusis. Raw Museum, at the Benaki Museum (138 Pireos Str.). An emblematic project by the organization of the Cultural Capital, as part of the theme “People-Society,” on the pieces that for the mosaic of the phenomenon of “Elefsina,” now and in the past.
Sampling fragments from the present and past of the city, what is schematically called the “DNA” of the place, the Exhibition Eleusis. Raw Museum, curated by architect-museologist Erato Koutsoudaki, attempts to interpret the city as an exhibit, and invites the audience to an exploration of antiquity and modern times, tradition and domestic exile and migration, emblematic industry and long-suffering labor, the city’s relationship with art, its uniqueness and mystery. At the same time, it hints at the beginning of museum practice, paying tribute to the Eleusinian collectors who preserve the evidence of its past with admirable perseverance. And, above all, it invites the public on a journey to the city’s core, its people and their communities.
