Lyrical narrations and songs by unknown female poets of the Ancient World
Lena Platonos and Maria Farantouri gave the residents and visitors of Elefsina two magical nights at the Archaeological Site of Elefsina
The meeting between two exceptional Greek female artists, Lena Platonos and Maria Farantouri was completed with great success. The event was organized by 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture and was held during the full moon, on July 13 and 14, at the archaeological site of Elefsina, with free admission.
The musical performance Fragments of the Silent is based on lyrical narrations, songs and preserved poetic fragments of unknown female poets of the Ancient World. Music by Lena Platonos, adaptation in modern Greek by Thanos Tsaknakis, performance by Maria Farantouri, and choreography by Dafnis Kokkinos.
Poetic voices of great women of Antiquity, such as Irinna, Anyti, Nossis, Corinna, Praxilla, Telesilla, Moiro and Diophyli, the disillusioners, but also Sappho, were linked to mythological, historical and contemporary female figures, in a musical performance that defied oblivion, composing a unique mystery in the city of their birth.
Excerpts from the musical performance Fragments of the Silent were first presented as part of the event “The Parthenon’s Expatriate Goddesses,” organized by the Acropolis Museum and the Marianna V. Vardinoyannis Foundation in March 2022, on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
