WHAT?
A 3 days intensive training programme with:
- up to 20 participants that are working in Greek festivals
- 3 mentors, expert art festival directors and art managers from Europe and beyond
- 3 guest speakers from the Greek art scene
Experience sharing is at the heart of the programme. It is about fostering dialogue and networking between festival managers and artists from the region, about programming a festival, engaging with the artists’ vision and developing new initiatives, new models and methods of working.
Presenters at the Atelier are renowned festival directors and managers, experienced festival operators, professionals and artists. During their participation, they not only act as lecturers but also as true mentors as they engage in one-on-one discussions with the participants. They allow participants an honest and open insight into their careers, including both success stories and failures focusing on examples that are held in the periphery.
In lectures, one-on-one talks and group discussions, as well as during intense workshops on case studies, issues such as artistic vision, public responsibility, creation and co-production, internationalisation, networking, renewal and sustainability will be explored. Participants are actively encouraged to share their own knowledge and experiences.
WHO?
You can apply if you are:
- a cultural manager or professional in the cultural field and you are working on the organization of Greek festivals
- an employee of a public or private organization and you are working on the organization of a Greek festival
- an artist or a curator and you are interested in the festivals’ organization
Participants will have the chance to compare their views with colleagues from various cultural and professional contexts and backgrounds and analyse them in view of the Eleusis 2021 artistic programme. What about the relationship between traditional and contemporary art? To what extent does this reflect in festival management concepts? To what extent do political, social and technological developments have an influence on artistic programming? How to reach (out to) the community where the festival takes place? How to develop a sustainable context for festivals, artists and audience? What are the festivals’ responsibilities towards the local community?
WHY?
The Atelier offers many opportunities:
- learn from expert festival leaders
- an exchange about your projects
- share your worldview and get inspired by others
What is the EFA and The Festival Academy?
The European Festivals Association (EFA) unites distinguished music, dance, theatre and multidisciplinary arts festivals from Europe and beyond since 1952. Today, the European Festivals Association (EFA) connects about 100 festivals and festival associations in 40 countries. EFA members are the core element that makes the Association an open, influential, international place for any festival that wants to be part of a bigger festival community.
The Festival Academy is an initiative of the European Festivals Association (EFA) which offers various training formats on festival management to dynamic and passionate festival makers worldwide through 3 unique training formats: Atelier for Young Festival Managers, Festival Production Management Training and Festival Readings. All training focus on the essence of festivals: art and artists.
The Festival Academy aims to share, exchange and construct know-how on festival management. All training touches upon all artistic disciplines. It empowers a new generation of emerging leaders and generates new professional opportunities for festival makers. This way, The Festival Academy develops and sustains a network of festival leaders of the future. Capacity building and internationalisation are at The Festival Academy’s core. The Festival Academy considers the art and the artists as the essence of festivals. Starting from this conviction, topics such as audience participation, quality of presentation, sustainability, budgetary orthodoxy, social impact and community engagement are on the agenda of the training. All training formats create opportunities by connecting local and international professionals, foster the development of new and long-term collaborations, and encourage an exchange of know-how. All programmes are designed in close exchange with the local partner, thanks to which participants get to know the local cultural sector, the visibility of the city increases and local artists are supported.
