25 Years of Greek Cinema – Screenings by the Department of Classics & Archaeology at Loyola Marymount University

The Department of Classics and Archaeology at Loyola Marymount University celebrates 25 years of Greek cinema with a special screening series titled “Mysteries of Transition: Ancient Narratives and Modern Eleusis”.

The screenings will take place on February 13, 14 & 15, curated by Katerina Zacharia, featuring films and documentaries from the Mysteries of Transition artistic program of 2023 Eleusis.

Through a carefully curated selection of films and documentaries, this program explores the complex identity of Eleusis, connecting its ancient past with the constantly evolving modern reality. From experimental narratives to documentaries, the screenings highlight the city as a space of ritual, memory, and artistic creation, documenting myths, landscapes, and the contemporary social fabric of Eleusis. The audience is invited to see Elefsina not merely as an archaeological site, but as a living organism, where the past and present constantly converse, inspiring new narratives.
