2023 Eleusis. European Capital of Culture. The monthly event, entitled “Cup of Europe”, organized by the renowned Hungarian journalist Olga Szederkényi at the European Commission’s headquarters, was dedicated to Greece in the month of April, with special emphasis on the promotion of Eleusis as European Capital of Culture for the year 2023.
The event was an opportunity to promote Greece in Hungary and was an initiative of the Greek Ambassador to Hungary Mr. Emmanuel Apostolakis. In addition, the joint awarding of the title of European Capital of Culture for 2023 to the Hungarian city – region of Veszprem / Balaton was also used appropriately to highlight both the work and objectives of the 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture and the long-standing historical ties that link Greece and Hungary. Special emphasis was also placed on the promotion of Greek culture, as well as the popular Greek tourist product in Hungary and the particularly attractive and dynamically developing alternative forms of tourism in our country.
The event included a reading of excerpts from Aeschylus’ tragedies in Hungarian and Greek by the Embassy’s partner and assistant professor at the Department of Modern Greek Philology of the Faculty of Philosophy of Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, Mr. Konstantinos Nakos, as well as a short discussion with the participation of the Greek expatriate Mrs. Eleni Korani, during which the constructive presence of Hellenism in Hungary over the years was again highlighted.
Finally, the event was concluded with the offer of commemorative gifts and information leaflets sent by “Eleusis 2023”, as well as promotional tourist material for our country and traditional Greek food and wine from the Greek Embassy in Budapest.
