events.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>In the fall of 2023,<\/strong> in the final stretch to welcome the <strong>European Capital of Culture<\/strong> title year, <strong>2023 Eleusis<\/strong> presents a rich programme of activities and events that includes <strong>Art Exhibitions, Theatrical Performances, Educational actions, Training Programs, Festivals, Interdisciplinary Art Projects<\/strong> and <strong>Open<\/strong> Calls for original projects.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Legacy actions such as the region\u2019s first <strong>ECOCULTURE <\/strong>Festival at the formerly abandoned camping site <strong>OASIS,<\/strong> the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> edition of the <strong>Culture 2030 Meeting on Cultural Industry, <\/strong>as well as original events, such as the multidisciplinary action by <strong>Georgia Mavragani, Music from the Houses, <\/strong>focused on the very houses of Elefsina, the tribute to <strong>Asia Minor<\/strong> through the puppet theater performance on<strong> Rebetiko <\/strong>music (REBETIKO) and the performance<strong> I_LEFT Asia Minor <\/strong>by <strong>Yolanda Markopoulou <\/strong>that returns to the city\u2019s neighborhoods, beloved actions such as the <strong>Nights of Slowness <\/strong>at the chapel of <strong>Agios Nikolaos<\/strong> and the <strong>Clock Tower Voices <\/strong>at the archaeological site are some of the events that bring Elefsina to the forefront of educational, research and artistic interest this fall.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Particular emphasis should be given to the strategic partnerships of <strong>2023 Eleusis <\/strong>such as the continuous and significant collaboration with the <strong>Aeschylia Festival <\/strong>for the organization of the visual arts exhibition <strong>by Kostis Velonis, \u201cStraw falling on concrete floors.\u201d <\/strong>New collaborations also include a partnership with the <strong>Benakis Museum<\/strong> for the exhibition-ode to the city of Elefsina, entitled Eleusis. <strong>Raw Museum, <\/strong>curated by <strong>Erato Koutsoudaki, <\/strong>as well as a partnership with the<strong> University of Patras,<\/strong> the <strong>National Kapodistrian University of Athens<\/strong> and the <strong>University of West Attica<\/strong> for the establishment of <strong>Open University \u2013 IN SITU,<\/strong> focused on the environment and culture.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The programme also includes educational activities for children, such as <strong>Mystikit Eleusis \u2013 Educational Suitcase, <\/strong>which will travel to schools across Greece, as well as the gardening workshop for children ages<strong> 7 to 12,<\/strong> <strong>Modular Gardens,<\/strong> which combines of Culture, <\/strong>in collaboration with the <strong>Aeschylia Festival, <\/strong>hosts the in situ sculptural installation by renowned visual artist <strong>Kostis Velonis, <\/strong>drawing inspiration from the mythological and historical tradition of Elefsina.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Mystery 52 | Mystikit Eleusis \u2013 Educational Suitcase<br \/>#Education<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<div id='gallery-2' class='gallery galleryid-8539 gallery-columns-1 gallery-size-full'><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon portrait'>\n\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"3379\" height=\"4330\" src=\"https:\/\/2023eleusis.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/valitsa_press-scaled.jpg\" class=\"attachment-full size-full\" alt=\"\" \/>\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The start of September marks the beginning of the action<strong> Mystery 52 | MYSTIKIT Eleusis \u2013 Educational Suitcase<\/strong> in the schools of Elefsina. It is an initiative by the <strong>Very Young Contemporary Art group,<\/strong> presented in the form of a comprehensive <strong>D\u03bf It Yourself <\/strong>\u2013 action and exploration kit, which provides students with the necessary equipment for research, walking, on-site observation and recording inside and outside the school environment, in order to see everyday life as an opportunity for artistic practice.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>It is also worth noting that <strong>2023 Eleusis <\/strong>has supported the<strong> Union of Oral History,<\/strong> which organizes in Elefsina, on <strong>Saturday September 17 and Sunday September 18,<\/strong> the workshop seminar<strong> \u201cOral history in Museums.\u201d<\/strong> Participants will have the opportunity to approach the challenges that arise during the processes of utilization of oral testimonies in museums and exhibition spaces in general.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Mystery 50 | ECOCULTURE Festival<br \/>#Festival #Environment<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The first <strong>ECOCULTURE Festival <\/strong>in Elefsina is presented on<strong> September 24 and 25.<\/strong> Drawing its theme from the environment, ecology and sustainability, this model institution\u2014which is one of the key legacy actions of the <strong>2023 Eleusis <\/strong>programme\u2014combines interdisciplinary dialogue with architectural design and the arts, while activating the former camping site <strong>OASIS<\/strong> in a celebration of the environment, open to visitors of all ages. The Festival\u2019s first edition will also feature \u0395cocultureDialogues, a series of diverse and interesting actions and discussions on sustainable innovation and agri-food, as well as <strong>Mystery 41 | Design Campus,<\/strong> a participatory workshop to explore the environmental challenges of the city in order to design interventions and strategies towards sustainable urban regeneration. Lastly, our younger friends will have the opportunity to attend <strong>Mystery 46 | Modular Gardens, <\/strong>a gardening workshop for children, <strong>ages 7-12,<\/strong> which combines gardening with new technologies.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Mystery 38 | Music from the houses<br \/><a>#<\/a>Interdisciplinaryartproject<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>In September 24 and 25, under the directorial curation of Georgia Mavragani,<\/strong> the audience is called to participate in field trips through the city\u2019s neighborhoods, listening to selected music diffused into the public space through the doors and windows of the city\u2019s houses.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Mystery 49 | Symposia<br \/>#Gastronomy<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The programme is complemented by an action concerning the gastronomical traditions of Elefsina, with the participation of local cultural associations.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Mystery 5 | Words on the Wall \u2013 The City as a Reading<br \/>#Interdisciplinary project<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<div id='gallery-3' class='gallery galleryid-8539 gallery-columns-1 gallery-size-full'><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"3000\" height=\"1996\" src=\"https:\/\/2023eleusis.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Logia-twn-toixwn-scaled.jpg\" class=\"attachment-full size-full\" alt=\"\" \/>\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>In mid-September,<\/strong> the third edition of<strong> Mystery 5 | Words on the Wall \u2013 The City as a Reading, <\/strong>draws its theme from the <strong>Asia Minor Catastrophe<\/strong>. A special action that includes a series of medium and small-scale short texts, poems and phrases, an open urban interpretation, activating various parts of the city of Elefsina.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>\u039c\u03c5\u03c3\u03c4\u03ae\u03c1\u03b9\u03bf 8 | With an eye turned to Japan<br \/>#Interdisciplinaryartproject<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The action by <strong>2023 Eleusis<\/strong>, in collaboration with the organization <strong>EU Japan Fest,<\/strong> under the artistic curatorship of <strong>Mikiko Kikuta<\/strong>, concerns the artistic residency of a Greek photographer in Osaka and then in Elefsina, and the presentation of the original photographs\u2014the fruits of the aforementioned residency\u2014which will be published and exhibited in Elefsina. The photographer will be selected by Kikuta after an open call for professional visual photographers, to be announced by 2023 Eleusis in September 2022<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Mystery 7 | Open University &#8211; IN SITU<br \/>#Education<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Eleusis proceeds with the establishment and operation of <strong>Mystery 7 | Open University &#8211; IN SITU, <\/strong>in collaboration with the <strong>University of Patras, the National Kapodistrian University of Athens <\/strong>and the <strong>University of West Attica.<\/strong> The programme of the new institution, which will be addressed mainly to the residents of Elefsina and the surrounding areas, aims to cultivate free thinking and provide a high level of scientific knowledge to a large and diverse audience, in terms of age, social or educational background. The first two workshops will be held in<strong> September and November,<\/strong> while the seminars will take place at the <strong>Elefsina-West Attica Labor Center (EKEDA)<\/strong>, from <strong>April to November 2023.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Mystery 13 | I-LEFT Asia Minor<br \/>#Theater<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>An important theatrical chronicle about forced displacement and the refugees that marked the history of Elefsina from the beginning of the <strong>20<sup>th<\/sup> century <\/strong>until today, returns to the city\u2019s neighborhoods. <strong>Mystery 13 | I-LEFT Asia Minor, directed by Yolanda Markopoulou,<\/strong> takes place as part of<strong> RefuGe,<\/strong> from September <strong>30 to October 9. <\/strong>People from <strong>Pontos and Asia Minor <\/strong>changed the life of Elefsina, passing the torch to today\u2019s refugees who are struggling to find their place in the world and the region. An emblematic project by the organization of the Cultural Capital, under the curation of architect-museologist Erato <strong>Koutsoudaki, <\/strong>as part of the theme\u00a0<strong>\u201cPeople-Society,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0on the pieces that for the mosaic of the phenomenon of <strong>\u201cElefsina,\u201d<\/strong> now and in the past.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Mystery 82 | REBETIKO \u00a0<br \/>#Puppettheater<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<div id='gallery-6' class='gallery galleryid-8539 gallery-columns-1 gallery-size-full'><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"777\" src=\"https:\/\/2023eleusis.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Rebetiko-1024x777-1.jpg\" class=\"attachment-full size-full\" alt=\"\" \/>\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>On <strong>October 22, <\/strong>the <strong>X &#8211; Bowling Art Center<\/strong> will host <strong>Mystery 82 | REBETIKO by Anima Theatre (FR), <\/strong>directed by <strong>Giorgos Karakantzas.<\/strong> Rebetiko is a puppet show that tells the story of forced displacement and fruitless survival, captured in the form of an Odyssey. A wandering displacement in space and time that draws its material from earlier and contemporary refugee narratives, but also from the particular musical paths of their tradition.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Mystery 54 | Mobile Workshop<br \/>#Education<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>October also marks the launch of the brief workshops introducing primary education children to new construction technologies, as part of the <strong>\u039a\u0391\u0399\u0395\u039a Program (Capacity Building and Applied Innovation Center). <\/strong>Both the educational and practical parts of the workshop are based on the<strong> UN\u2019s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), <\/strong>21<sup>st<\/sup> century skills and the electronic thinking of computers.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>November<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Mystery 56 | the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> \u201cCulture 2030\u201d Meeting<br \/>#Education<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<div id='gallery-7' class='gallery galleryid-8539 gallery-columns-1 gallery-size-full'><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"3500\" height=\"2336\" src=\"https:\/\/2023eleusis.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/9_11_day2_web-4-scaled.jpg\" class=\"attachment-full size-full\" alt=\"\" \/>\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The meeting is held between <strong>November 10-13 <\/strong>at the <strong>Elefsina-West Attica Labor Center (EKEDA), <\/strong>transforming Elefsina for four days into a workshop, exploring a new model of cultural operation. An important legacy program, a<strong> 4-day celebration <\/strong>filled with discussions, workshops and networking activities on matters of artistic citizenship, the art of sociability and the cultural development of cities and communities in general, as well as presentations of artistic works, with the participation of theorists, artists and cultural professionals from Greece and abroad, as well as representatives of local government and ordinary citizens and residents of the city.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Mystery 2 | Clock Tower Voices<br \/>#Interdisciplinaryartproject<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Having acquired a character of regular periodicity, the series of original artistic meetings under the<strong> Clock, <\/strong>in the emblematic <strong>Archaeological Site of Elefsina,<\/strong> returns on <strong>November 13<\/strong> with distinguished guests to be announced soon. The activation of the landmark of the <strong>Clock, <\/strong>both symbolically and literally, places the action at the heart of Elefsina, while the pedestrian street next to the archaeological site functions as a place of public meeting for residents and visitors, spectators of the action.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Mystery 7 | \u0391telier for Art Producers<br \/>#Education<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The training progamme will be held between<strong> November 28-30 by FESTIVAL ACADEMY VZW, <\/strong>in collaboration with the <strong>Drosos Foundation <\/strong>and the <strong>Zoukak Theatre Company Beirut. <\/strong>Exploring all the phases of festival programming, as well as the production of an artistic work, the aim of the action is to delve into all the phases and challenges of the professional field of the participants, selected from different parts of the world through an open call.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Detailed information about the fall programme will be announced soon.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><\/figure>\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Music | Theater | Visual Arts | Festival | Interdisciplinary Art Projects | Education From September to November, 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture organizes a rich programme of actions and events.
