\n<\/b><\/h5>\n
The distinguished music ensemble <\/span>dissonArt<\/b> presents, for the first time in Greece, the emblematic work of the pioneering American composer <\/span>Morton Feldman<\/b> Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello<\/span><\/i>. An immersive listening experience, where the audience will be free to sit or lie down in Warehouse 1 of the Old Oil Mill Factory of Elefsina, in order to be close to the musicians and experience a unique performance.<\/span><\/p>\n Having hosted <\/span>more than 2,000 visitors<\/b> so far, the group exhibition of contemporary art closes with the <\/span>unveiling of the “cube of the unknown”<\/b>. During a special ceremony, under the direction of the artist <\/span>McCloud Zicmuse<\/b>, visitors will have the opportunity to see, <\/span>for the first time and for one day only, the sculpture of the award-winning international Greek artist<\/b> Theodoros<\/b>. Earlier that day, <\/span>from 11.00 to 13.00<\/b>, <\/span>Zicmuse<\/b> will hold the <\/span>workshop<\/b> Preparing the Ways<\/i><\/b>, aiming to prepare visitors for the procession that will follow, through techniques of playing hand-made instruments, singing exercises and simple choreographies. <\/span>Visions from the Underworld<\/span><\/i>, curated by <\/span>Agprognostic Temple<\/b>, is a symbolic passage to the Underworld and back, a journey of revelation and discovery through which <\/span>10 important contemporary artists<\/b> demonstrate the relevance of the Eleusinian Mysteries to modern times and interpret them in a 21<\/span>st<\/span> century language.<\/span><\/p>\n This pioneering festival interacts with a religious, historical and cultural institution such as the <\/span>Feast of St George<\/b> (patron saint of the city), incorporating new features into the collective consciousness with <\/span>all-day and all-night film screenings, six hours of public talks, VR performances and live filming<\/b> in public space to create two films, in real time, which will be completed <\/span>with the participation of the public<\/b>, edited on site and screened at the end of the festival. A concept by director <\/span>Syllas Tzoumerkas<\/b>, co-curated by academic and cultural practitioner <\/span>Maria Chatzichristodoulou aka Maria X<\/b>, and film critic and programmer <\/span>Lorenzo Esposito<\/b>, in collaboration with the Thessaloniki Film Festival and LADA – The Live Art Development Agency.<\/span><\/p>\n Professor of Ethnomusicology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, <\/span>Lambros Liavas, <\/b>will speak about the deeper meaning and functions of the folk events and songs of this time of the year when Christian worship revisits its ancient origins, Christ converses with Adonis and Ai-Giorgis meets the ancient dragon-killing hero who releases water and brings forth fruitfulness. Afterwards, a big folk feast will be held under the trees with the songs and dances of Earth, Spring and the Greek Easter.<\/span><\/p>\n Visual artist <\/span>Marios Fournaris<\/b> presents a cross-cultural synergy of visual arts, performance art and music in collaboration with the musicians <\/span>Georgia Balabini<\/b> and <\/span>Mislav Re\u017ei\u0107, <\/b>with the participation of various cultural groups of Elefsina. The project\/action focuses on rethinking the characteristics that make up the whole of the ephemeral human existence, through a counterpoint of symbolic representations of the mythical world and the Renaissance. The artistic proposal comprises three parts: sculptural environment, performance, and music.<\/span><\/p>\n The youth group Cultterra presents the action Thirstdays. The title is a pun on the English words “Thursday”, the day of the group’s weekly meeting, and “thirst”, signifying the city’s youth thirst for art and culture. The axes pass successively from the most informal events to the most formal and open to the public ones. In April, the activities that will take place are: \u03b3\u03bd\u03c9\u03c1\u03b9meet the 2023: Martha Frintzila, Araxovolin: film screening, to meet the locals: Elpida Hatzinikolaou.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n April is a month rich in education and training programmes and actions for all school levels, young people and adults. Photographic works inspired by the city, short documentaries, murals inspired by the environment, a participatory urban design workshop, a dancing journey in public space with skateboards, a mixed group of teenagers designing the city of the future through digital environments, children of the first grade of primary school become familiar with new construction technologies, a university opens its doors to all interested parties to attend lectures, seminars and experiential workshops and many more activities and programmes take place in the city of Elefsina.<\/p>\n Just for a few more days!<\/b><\/p>\n Two iconic exhibitions will run <\/span>through<\/b> Sunday 23<\/b>rd<\/b> April <\/b>at the Old Oil Mill Factory: <\/span>Mystery 44 Heiner Goebbels 7 Columns<\/b>, by the multi-talented artist and composer Heiner Goebbels, who transforms Warehouse 2 into a contemporary temple, while Warehouse 3, right next door, hosts <\/span>Mystery 17 Melina<\/b>, the exhibition dedicated to the legendary <\/span>Melina Mercouri<\/b>, under the general supervision of Manuella Pavlidou and the general curatorship and museological and museographic study of Nikolaos Kaltsas.<\/span><\/p>\n Mystery 19 Visual Arts Initiator III \u2013 But Don\u2019t Tell Anyone Artists from the field of visual arts in public space (installation, video art, performance, sculpture, etc.) are encouraged to participate in the 3rd edition of the artist-in-residence program that will take place in two phases, May and October 2023. The five selected artists are invited to stay in the city, experiment and conceive a site responsive project, revisiting the Eleusinian mysteries in dialogue with the Archeological Site of Elefsina, under the guidance and supervision of the internationally acclaimed curator Joanna Warsza and five fellow artists.<\/span><\/p>\n An exhibition – tribute, a memorial to those who worked and are working in Eleusis, to those who have created the current image of the city with their work, their physical effort, their lives. The open call is addressed to workers and retired workers of factories, industries and companies in the region. For each person who participates, the artist will create a handmade clay helmet on which will be incised elements or words that characterise that person. In September 2023, all the clay helmets produced will be displayed in a large exhibition at the Iris Factory and then they will be distributed to the participants as a memory of this giant artistic project.<\/span><\/p>\n 2023 Eleusis and and the experienced group of dancers and acrobats \u201cKi Omos Kineitai\u201d organise a social circus workshop in Elefsina, inviting professionals and amateurs, children and adults to acquaint themselves with the magic of contemporary circus, which will lead to the renewed version of the award-winning performance “The Higgs Boson”. The workshop includes contemporary dance and acrobatics classes by choreographer Christina Sougioultzi and dancers Nonda Damopoulos and Ileanna Pappas and is addressed to Elefsina residents and dancers and acrobats who wish to strengthen their knowledge of contemporary circus.<\/span><\/p>\n A new radio starts operating at the Old Railway Station of Elefsina. The aim is to set up an experimental radio station that will be owned, powered, and operated by the local community of Elefsina. People aged 5 to 105 years old, collectives, initiatives, associations and groups of all kinds from Elefsina, and everyone interested are welcome to attend a series of educational workshops with free participation, which will give them the tools, knowledge, and inspiration to experiment with the world of sound and radio.<\/p>\n The 2023 edition of the Beyond the Obvious gathering will also feature the Handle with Care Agora. It is an informal marketplace showcasing local and international\/European projects working with the topics of care, community and individual well-being, health, mental health and culture. The aim of the Agora is to bring different perspectives from arts, heritage, human rights, health, research, politics, activism etc. sphere and mix initiatives from Greece with similar projects coming from all over Europe and beyond and to create an open space for networking and peer learning.<\/span><\/p>\n How does classical music relate to experimentation, the electric guitar to visual arts, cinema to a festival, and psychedelia to the Greek Easter?
